8 minutes to guarantee a better day

So you've had a few too many rough days?

Sorry to assume, but you did click on this blog. Don't worry, us too. That's how we discovered Dr. Bob Waldinger and his theory on "The 8 Minute Catch-Up".

The theory that 8 meaningful minutes talking to a friend over the phone or in person is the key to a boosted emotional well-being. Sounds easy enough.

Ol' Bobby isn't just a man with a theory but a renowned professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School and the author of The Good Life: Lessons From the World’s Longest Scientific Study of Happiness. Seems legit, so we gave it a go.

Here's the trick though: texting doesn't count.

With us each holding a different mind-eating thought, ranging from work dilemmas to boy drama to family patterns, we reached out to a friend. We set the timer, and we began.

The results? An immediate clearer mind and surprisingly closer bond to which none of us thought could get any closer.

Moving forward, we've all created a list of five friends that we know will always be down for an 8-minute catch-up – we call them the fantastic 5.
